Hailing from the seaside communities surrounding Enoshima, a small island located 50 km southwest of Tokyo, Maya Ongaku is a ragtag collective of local musicians whose brand of earthy psychedelia transcends widely beyond the roots of their inner souls. The name derives not from any kind of ancient civilization, but rather a neologism defined as the imagined view outside one’s field of vision. The band—currently a trio of Tsutomu Sonoda, Ryota Takano, and Shoei Ikeda—finds sanctuary at the Ace General Store, a beachy vintage shop and salon-like space just hidden from sight from the bustling, touristy riverside Subana Street. Between discussions on music and art, curating the vinyl section and manning the register, and chatting
up with locals young and old, the members find time to jam and record their spontaneous ideas in the studio tucked away in the back. It’s in this unlikely setting where Maya Ongaku finds its origins, the culmination of what Sonoda describes as 自然発生 (shizen hassei), meaning spontaneous generation, or the supposed production of living organisms from nonliving matter.
SUPPORT
Passepartout Duo looks for unprecedented ways of connecting through sound. Their music combines a varied instrumentation ranging from analog synthesizers to processed percussion and found objects, often employing specific chamber music techniques to explore spatialized and psychoacoustic effects. The group, formed by Nicoletta Favari and Chris Salvito, has been on a nearly continuous world tour ever since they began collaborating in 2015, and their experiences traveling have heavily influenced their unconventional creative process. In 2024 they teamed up with the Berlin- based company KOMA Elektronik to start producing their instrument called ‘Chromaplane’

СОЮЗ (SOYUZ) is a creative collective originally from Minsk, Belarus, that was founded by multi-instrumentalists Alex Chumak, the band's composer and principal arranger, and Mikita Arlou. After moving to Warsaw, Poland in 2022, they were joined by drummer Albert Karch and guitarist Igor Wiśniewski. The name of the band is translated as “union”, which reflects the creative nature of the relationship between its members and their collaborators. While the recordings of SOYUZ feature a wider array of instruments, live performances are reimagined by the quartet. They include musical insights from all the performers and leave room for collective improvisation.
Following the success of “Force of the Wind”, “KROK” has further cemented SOYUZ’ international reputation as a constantly evolving and adventurous music collective, with positive reviews from KEXP and Allmusic, features in TURN, &Premium, Radio FIP (who also added the album to their “Sélection FIP”), Songlines Magazine, DW Brasil, Worldwide FM, and airplay on KEXP, KCRW, BBC Radio 6, SWR, Radio Canada, NTS Radio and more. An international tour promoting the album started in February 2026, featuring often sold out shows in renowned venues such as London’s Jazz Cafe, Stockholm’s Fasching, Brussels’ Botanique, Amsterdam’s Paradiso, Zurich’s Moods and many more. The band also recorded a live performance for Giles Peterson at the legendary BBC Maida Vale studios. The next leg of their 2026 tour will take them to many new places and well known venues around Europe.

LITTLE BARRIE

Cast in the grand tradition of great British rock bands, and fueled by a love of American blues, funk and soul,
Little Barrie’s sixth studio album is the first released solely under the band’s own name since the death of drummer Virgil Howe in September 2017. The LP follows more than two decades of activity that have established the band as a key force in UK psychedelic rock and soul. Following Howe’s passing, Cadogan and founding bassist Lewis Wharton placed the future of the band on hold. After initial plans to resume playing were disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, the pair began collaborating with long-time friend
Malcolm Catto (The Heliocentrics). This partnership resulted in two albums, Quatermass Seven (2020) and Electric War, released on Easy Eye Sound in April 2025. For Gravity Freeze, the hooks are sharper, the grooves are deeper, and the atmospherics thicker, building on the band’s previous, highly-acclaimed work.

Embryo is one of the most influential and enduring collectives to emerge from Germany’s krautrock and improvisational music scene. Founded in 1969 by Christian Burchard, the group developed a unique musical language connecting jazz, psychedelic rock, free improvisation and musical traditions from across the world. Today led by Marja Burchard, Embryo continues to evolve as a constantly shifting collective dedicated to spontaneity, cultural exchange and musical freedom.

Multi-instrumentalists Alex Chumak and Mikita Arlou founded СОЮЗ (SOYUZ) in Minsk, Belarus. After relocating to Warsaw in 2022, the band was joined by Polish musicians Albert Karch (drums) and Igor Wisniewski (guitar). The name, which means „union“, reflects both the collaboration between its members and the project’s dual identity.
SOYUZ is, in fact, two bands in one. In the studio, Chumak serves as the composer, arranger, and artistic director, shaping meticulously crafted recordings that draw from jazz, folk, pop and classical music. On stage, however, SOYUZ becomes a different entity: the live quartet reimagines the music collectively, where improvisation and each member’s individual voice reshape the songs, often to a surprise of audience and band alike.

Skinshape is the studio project of British musician and producer William Dorey. Skinshape grew out of a love for old music and the way it sounded. The sound has roots in many genres, but in particular 1960s-70s Funk, Reggae, Library music, Psychedelic Rock, African music and Folk. William was also a founding member of the band Palace (2014-2017) and has been running his own reggae record label called Horus Records since 2014. The 5-person live band will be playing Skinshape’s works, both new and old.

Pedro Mizutani is a 24-year-old artist who was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro. The young singer-songwriter is inspired by the bossa nova pioneers like João Gilberto, Nara Leão, Baden Powell, João Donato and countless other natives. They revolutionized music before going underground in times of struggle. But their legacy was so strong, that it survived. We won the APPLAUS Award 2024! This is an important milestone for us and our cultural endeavor over the past seven (yes, seven!) years. It’s also a big motivation to keep going.
You must know—it’s not a given that we’re still here doing this. Every year is a challenge, and there are moments when we’re close to giving up. The financial struggle is very real, and we constantly find ourselves torn between keeping subculture affordable and securing enough support to keep us afloat.

‘New Internationale’—their musically irrepressible and emotionally sophisticated third album, and their debut for Brainfeeder—is deliberate in a way Kit Sebastian has never really been. They wrote most of it on the road, energised by the sounds they discovered as they magpied instruments during their travels—Turkish clarinet, santour, oud, gangsa, zither, harpsichord, and on and on. They cut most of the tracks in London during brief breaks, longtime drummer Theo Guttenplan and double bassist David Richardson joining a panoply of horn, string, and percussion players. And during a year off from the road, where K. and Merve could concentrate on making sure the pieces moved together, they decamped to the French countryside for two weeks, leaving the distractions and moodiness of home. They captured vocals for 14 songs there in only half that time. Both Kit Sebastian’s busy touring schedule and subsequent break from it allowed Merve to step fully into these songs and their ever-shifting shapes, her confidence and versatility rising in tandem.
